Governor Kitzhaber announces Medicaid agreement to improve care for Oregonians.
Governor Kitzhaber traveled to Washington D.C. this week and brought back 1.9 Billion dollars to help implement Oregon's health care transformation. This will help us comply with the upcomming federal changes in 2014. Read the Statesman Journal newspaper article here -
On March 26, Senator Monnes Anderson held a town hall at the Gresham Library. The main topic was foreclosure and mortgages. There are several resources for homeowners facing problems with their mortgages. It is possible to have a free mortgage councilor help you with your options. Also, there was a national mortgage settlement that can help some people. Here are some links -

The Gresham Outlook published an editorial describing the successful bipartisan cooperation that took place in the February 2012 session. Successes include continued funding for the East Multnomah County Gang Enforcement Team, funding for the 257th Ave interchange off Interstate 84, and a foreclosure feform bill.

The February 2012 legislative session has come to a close. There are many successes to share. They range in topic from Multnomah County specific bills, to bills about jobs, small businesses, health care and education.

Senator Monnes Anderson proudly watched Governor Kitzhaber sign the Health Exchange bill.
The Governor has also signed Senate Bill 1565, the Physician Assistant/ Nurse Practioner dispensing bill.
Additionally, Senate Bill 1580, Healthcare Transformation, was signed by the Governor.
House Bill 4164 is the health insurance exchange bill. It will allow consumers of health insurance to compare commercial plans and make an informed choice. This Information Technology program will be accessable on the internet and should be up and running by 2014.

On Friday Mar 3, 2012 the Senate passed HB 4077, which deals with teen dating. This important legislation will empower Oregon's schools to prevent and respond to teen dating violence more effectively.

On Wednesday October 19, 2011 the Gresham Outlook published a Women in Business newspaper section. Senator Monnes Anderson was included in that newspaper.
On February 29, Senator Monnes Anderson delivered a floor speech in support of a bill she sponsored. Senate Bill 1556 permits transit companies to purchase more American made parts.

On Feb 20, a Strong Schools, Strong Oregon rally was held on the Capitol steps. It was put together by Education Oregon. It is good to see so many people interested in the political process. Left to right are Kate Brown, Laurie Monnes Anderson and Diane Rosenbaum.
On Friday Feb 18, Senator Monnes Anderson addressed the Oregon State Senate about her Buy American bill. This bill will permit transit agencies to give preference to American made parts. This common-sense change will give Oregon’s communities greater control over how their public resources are spent and will contribute toward the creation and ongoing sustainability of good, well-paying jobs in Oregon and nationwide. This is a jobs bill and it passed unanimously.

Senator Monnes Anderson voted for Senate Bill 1580, which passed the Senate on Feb 14. It is the health care transformation bill which will improve the way our state delivers care to Oregonians in need. I voted yes because it will cut waste and save money on health care costs. Dollars can be saved by increasing preventative care and decreasing emergency room visits.

The Thibodeaux family visited on Feb 14, 2012. Debbie has two daughters, Michaela age 7 and Jordan age 9. They choose to use virtual schools. It was nice to see them.
The Oregon Health Authority published a document describing how health care costs can be reduced by over three billion dollars over five years.

"Every loss of a home from foreclosure is a tragedy, but for a family to lose a home that could have been saved through mediation or other means is worse than a tragedy," said Sen. Laurie Monnes Anderson, D-Gresham, who co-sponsored SB 1562 and SB 1564.
